OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Mika Zibanejad on a two-year contract extension that will run through the end of the 2016-17 National Hockey League season. The average annual value of the contract is $2.625 million ($2M, $3.25M).
Zibanejad, 22, established new statistical career highs in all major categories in 2014-15, registering 46 points (20 goals, 26 assists) and 20 penalty minutes over 80 regular-season contests. He also established a new career high when he registered at least one point in a seventh consecutive game with an assist on March 8 in the Senators’ 5-4 home shootout win over Calgary. His seven multi-point games were also a career high and included the first four-point (two goals, two assists) game of his NHL career in Ottawa’s 4-3 home win over Vancouver on Dec. 7.
Drafted by the Senators in the first-round (sixth overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Zibanejad has recorded 100 points (43 goals, 57 assists) and 46 penalty minutes over 200 career NHL contests.
