News Release: Ottawa Senators host Minor Hockey Week presented by Scotiabank

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today their Minor Hockey Week tribute to players, coaches, officials and volunteers, which runs from Nov. 14 to 21.

Created in partnership with Scotiabank and the two minor hockey governing bodies in the National Capital Region — Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO) and Hockey Outaouais — Minor Hockey Week presented by Scotiabank will feature programs and initiatives that highlight teams, associations, coaches, players and volunteers in a salute to the region’s minor hockey communities.

Special minor hockey initiatives and ticket promotions at all Senators home games

Each Senators home game during Minor Hockey Week (Nov. 14 vs. New York Rangers, Nov 16 vs. Detroit, Nov. 19 vs. Columbus and Nov. 21 vs. Philadelphia) will feature local minor hockey players and officials joining the Senators and the night’s league officials for the national anthems on the team’s blue line. Select games will also feature initiation aged minor hockey players taking part in the Tim Hortons Timbit Challenge ice during the first intermission.

Minor hockey teams and players can purchase discounted tickets for select games starting at $20 by using the promo code MHWEEK at www.capitaltickets.ca/promo. Minor hockey players attending Senators home games are encouraged to wear their minor hockey jersey to receive a ballot upon entering Canadian Tire Centre for exclusive prizes throughout the game including the chance to win autographed items and movies for a year courtesy of Scotiabank and the Senators.

Senators Junior Skills Challenge Regional Finals presented by Canadian Tire

Friday, Nov. 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ray Friel Complex (Orleans)

Saturday, Nov. 14, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Minto Recreation Complex (Barrhaven)

Sunday, Nov. 15, from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at Bell Sensplex (Kanata)

Throughout the season, more than 50 minor hockey teams (featuring more than 700 players) have competed in the Senators Junior Skills Challenge and submitted their scoresheets for tabulation. The top participants from each team have been invited to compete in one of the Regional Finals denoted above for the chance to win the opportunity to move on to the Championship which will be held at Canadian Tire Centre. The top participants from the week’s Regional Finals will compete in the Championship at Canadian Tire Centre on Friday, Nov. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. From there, the top three performers in each category along with two goaltenders will be recognized with the opportunity to compete in Sens Skills presented by Sport Chek alongside the Senators on Dec. 31.

Senators Alumni Forwards Clinic featuring Shaun Van Allen

Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for forwards at Canadian Tire Centre

This position-specific clinic will feature former Senators forward Shaun Van Allen, who will share insight on offensive strategy and lead forward-related drills to provide local minor hockey players with instruction on how to improve their positional play.

Senators Alumni Defencemen Clinic featuring Jason Smith

Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for defencemen at Canadian Tire Centre

The second position-specific clinic at Canadian Tire Centre on Wednesday evening will feature former Senators defenceman and current assistant coach Jason Smith, who will share insight on defensive strategy and lead defence-related drills to provide local minor hockey players with instruction on how to improve their positional play.

13th annual Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic

Saturday, Nov. 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Senators conclude Minor Hockey Week presented by Scotiabank with the 13th annual Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Nov., 21 at Canadian Tire Centre. Held free of charge for all classifications of coaches, the clinic will feature an introductory welcome by Senators staff (at 7:45 a.m.), followed by individual demonstration sessions related to offensive play led by Senators Alumnus Brad Smyth, goaltending with Senators goaltending coach Rick Wamsley, puck positioning with the Sensplex’s head hockey instructor, Ryan Smith and small area games led by prominent hockey instructors from Hockey Eastern Ontario. Two French segments will be held by Hockey Outaouais after the Senators and Flyers morning respective morning skates. Each participant will receive a Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic handbook containing tips regarding on-ice drills and will also be able to watch the Senators morning skate following the instructional sessions.
