Earlier this afternoon the team announced that they had agreed to terms with defenceman Fredrik Claesson on a one-year, two-way contract extension. Sens General Manager commented on extending Claesson...
On agreeing to terms with Fredrik Claesson:
First off, he's a very competitive guy. He's a guy with a lot of energy and played a big role in Binghamton for us. He's developed nicely into a real solid NHL prospect. Obviously, we're real pleased to have signed himand look forward to him coming to camp in great shape and competing real hard for a job.
On his play last season in Binghamton:
There's no question that when Mark Borowiecki made the team in Ottawa, Freddy got an expanded role and became a real feature player down there that was used in all situations. Obviously, that's helped to develop into the kind of prospect that we think he is right now.
Claesson had just wrapped his third full season with the Binghamton Senators where he established new professional career highs in goals (4) and games (76) in 2014-15 while being the sole B-Sens’ player to appear in each of the team’s regular season contests.
His new contract will carry an annual value of $600,000 in the NHL and of $85,000 in the AHL.
