"I'm ready to play."
Milan Michalek wasn't the biggest name to fall for the Senators in Pittsburgh on February 13 but his absence has certainly been felt. In another case of unlucky 13's, the Sens haven't scored over three goals in a baker's dozen worth of games going back to February 5 at home against Buffalo.
With Michalek on the verge of his return, that should turn around sooner rather than later.
It's not entirely clear what happened to Michalek in Pittsburgh but the wait for him to re-enter the lineup has been, or feels like, a long time coming. His focus now is on getting back to full speed physically.
"I have to get in game shape and try to get some confidence back. Just try and skate and do that and hopefully it will come."
Despite the sudden nature of how Michalek's injury came about — he simply came off the ice with a swollen knee — he says he isn't worried about how it will perform for him. He isn't thinking about it when he's playing and says it feels good.
As far as possibly returning against Toronto? Coach MacLean hasn't finalized his lineup for the Wednesday tilt but it sounds as though Michalek is in the plans.
When asked about taking on the Leafs, Michalek said "it'll be fun." It'll be just as good to see a top line with him on it.
