For those of you who missed it earlier today, Milan Michalek
will not be suiting up for the Sens any time soon.
Michalek was injured in the warmups prior to the February 13 game in Pittsburgh. He sat out the better part of a month with the injury and returned for two games this month, where he picked up two points. He experienced some discomfort after his second game back and hasn't played since.
There is currently no timetable for his return after he underwent surgery in New York today.
Obviously not having the option to play Michalek is a blow for the team but at this point it is probably best for him to rest up and let the knee heal fully. It's unknown how long the recovery will take but given the nature of the injury and recovery of others who have had similar procedures, it's not inconceivable for Michalek to return for the post-season, should the Sens make it.
With the team playing so well it would have been a big boost to have what Michalek brings on a nightly basis, but this is still a player who is just 28. As someone, one hopes, with plenty of miles left in the tank, his long term health has to be taken into consideration beyond the 2013 season.
