Mark Stone post-practice - 1.29.2014

by Chris Lund / Ottawa Senators

Mark Stone updated his injury status on Wednesday after joining the team for practice in a non-contact capacity.

Here's what he had to say...

On his recovery:

It's good, I wouldn't say I'm quite comfortable yet but shooting is starting to come along, I'm just still not quite there yet.

On the timing of the injury:

It's just unfortunate, I've had a lot of those the last two years but I've been able to overcome them so I'm just looking to overcome this one.

On if he feels "cursed":

No, it happens to everybody. A lot of people have been through it, I'm not just the only one.

On the difficult of watching games:

It's always tough watching from the stands, you always want to be out there helping the guys but you're just hoping they can pull out wins and hoping that you can get back in the lineup and hopefully I can improve my game.

On if he has a set date:

No, I'm just taking it day by day right now, it seems like everyday I've been getting just a little bit better, which is the goal. I don't have a date yet but I'm just hoping to get back as soon as I can.

On when the injury occurred:

I knew there was something wrong, I didn't know how it was going to be or how long it was going to be but I felt pain, I knew that there was something wrong and fortunately it wasn't too severe.

On if he could play in Binghamton during the Olympics:

I don't know how it works, I'm sure I could, but at the same time I've got to be careful with it. I don't want any setbacks.

On his experience overcoming injuries:

I've been through a lot with injuries over the past couple of years. It's tough to stay in game shape but I think now with the personnel that we have around us, I wouldn't say it's easy to stay in game shape but it has improved over the last two years. Every time I come back I feel like I'm in better shape.

On the lighter diagnosis as a relief:

For sure. When I was first laying on the ice I felt like I was going to be out for a while but when I got back it calms down. I didn't lose a whole lot of mobility which is good so I felt comfortable from day one, just a little bit of pain. The long ones are tough, they're frustrating, it's a terrible time to just be sitting around, riding the bike and not being out there with the guys. You start to miss it and you start to get down on yourself. These little ones you can do little things in the gym to improve your game.

On his past time on the injured list as beneficial to his career:

I know I've worked hard. When I get out I want to be back as soon as possible but when it comes down to it I wasn't going to come back very soon from a lot of the injuries so little things in the weight room can improve other areas. For me, I've been looking to get quicker so a lot of my injuries have been with my upper body so it has been nice to kind of get strength in my lower body and help with my quickness.
