MacLean after Fan Fest

by Chris Lund / Ottawa Senators

With Sens brass up in the stands for today's scrimmage, Paul MacLean got a great view of today's heated red vs. white game that took centre stage during Sens Fan Fest today. Cole Schneider scored the lone goal of the contest as the red team pulled out the victory over team white.

Here's what Coach MacLean had to say after the scrimmage...

On today's scrimmage:

I enjoyed the structure of it. I thought were probably the best we've been at doing what we do and staying within the systemic part of our game, which ended up being a 1-0 affair, which didn't really surprise me because of the focus that we had on doing things the right way. I did think it was a much more competitive game than the scrimmage the other day was and that's a credit to the players coming in here and going to work.

On Zibanejad playing the wing:

There's a potential for it. It's one of the things we could do when it comes to the top six forwards, the position we've been talking about that Mika would be a possibility to go there even though we like him as a centreman. We can't go past the fact that if he can go there and make us a better team, by all means we're going to be able to do that. It's something we wanted to see in a scrimmage, a more controlled situation than in a game, but moving forward it's a possibility.

On the next phase of camp:

Well tomorrow we're going to separate into two groups. We're going to practice here at 10 o'clock with a group that'll have six lines, eight defencemen and two goaltenders and we feel that's really important for us to really get through the system part of it and be able to play five-on-five, a lot more five-on-five stuff, a lot more teaching stuff and really be able to go at it much harder and with a better competition level with the level of the players. Luke Richardson and his staff will have a group at 9:30 over at Sensplex to go through stuff they need to go through as well. That's the plan tomorrow and the next day.
