The "mud pit" is no longer. Our fans asked for it on social media and in person and now Lot 6 is finally being paved after nearly 20 years.
This off-season has seen a lot of improvements in and around Canadian Tire Centre as we get set to drop the puck on the 2015-16 season. We've chronicled the many food and beverage upgrades inside the building along with the massive renovation that is Club Bell (the building's newest premier club) but there has also been a lot of work happening outside as well.
We had some fun back in August with our "exclusive" coverage of the parking lot repaving which saw Lots 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 9 get resurfaced over the summer. It was kind of a silly way to draw attention to the upgrade but it worked and along with people poking fun at us we actually garnered some real feedback: PAVE LOT 6 PLS.
We know a good idea when we hear one so the race to get Lot 6 paved before the season was on and I'm happy to report that it will be ready for the team's home opener this weekend. That's right...just like the Sens' heroic push towards the playoffs last season, we're going to pull this thing out at the 11th hour as a result of being driven by our loyal fan base.
The lot has been gravel since the building opened back in 1996 and now with it's resurfacing, in partnership with Vinci, it adds another 1,000 paved parking spots for fans to enjoy directly in front of the building. The paving of Lot 6 is the last piece of a multi-million dollar resurfacing project that saw every parking lot surrounding Canadian Tire Centre repaved since the summer of 2014.
So enjoy Sens fans and devoted Lot 6 parkers. You've earned it.
