After being sidelined with an injury for much of training camp, Curtis Lazar makes his Sens pre-season debut tonight in Montreal. The 2013 first round pick was very solid earlier this month in rookie tournament action and now Sens brass and fans will have their first chance to see how he asserts himself against full-fledged professional competition.
Here's what Lazar had to say about tonight's game...
On getting ready for tonight:
It felt like Christmas, that's for sure, just getting to the rink. I'm looking forward to it. There's no better place to start for your first NHL pre-season action.
On if he's been prepped about Montreal:
Not really, I know how crazy it is and all of that but it's my first time in that building tonight and the butterflies will be at a high but I'm just going to go out there and enjoy it.
On if he'll be talking to anyone to calm himself:
There's everyone, everyone is trying to help out each other here. I know for myself I'm going to be quite wide-eyed when I step on the ice, but just keep it simple. Just get the first couple of shifts under my belt and have some fun.
On what he hopes to show tonight:
I want to bring the puck hard to the net and generate some offence, but I also don't want to be a slouch in the defensive zone. I want to be out there sacrificing the body and just do whatever coach asks me to.
On his first training camp:
It felt good, it's obviously tough standing out on the sidelines there watching for the most part but I'm healed up and ready to go and that's the biggest thing. I have a lot to prove here and I'm just going to go with it.
