After being selected in the 5th round of the 2016 NHL Draft in June and consistently earning praise from Sens management about his transition game, defenceman Maxime Lajoie finds himself set to make his NHL pre-season debut tonight against the Sabres.
His thoughts on his play at the Rookie Tournament in london:
I think it went pretty well. The team played really good but as the games went on I think I got more comfortable so my game improved a lot. I thought I played pretty good in that tournament.
On the positive comments he received from Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee on his play:
It's really nice to hear but at the same time I just have to keep playing my game. Hopefully I'm able to show them what I can bring for this team.
On having nerves coming into his first NHL training camp:
There were some nerves being here with the big guys but at the same time I just want to be myself. I believe that I should be here so I'm proud to be here. I think it's going to be a good camp.
On composure being a big part of his game:
I just have to keep calm and play my game against these guys. There are some nerves and it hasn't really sunk in yet that I'm practicing with them and playing against them. It's really nice to be out there with some great players. It's really exciting.
On the size and speed of an NHL training camp:
You have to make decisions quicker and you know that you're always going to get hit no matter what. Guys are a lot bigger and faster so you just have to make sure you do things quicker.
On learning from his defence partner Fredrik Claesson during camp:
Just how he is around the rink and on the ice. He's a good leader and I think he's a really good player so I can learn a lot of things from him.
On playing in his first NHL exhibition game tonight:
It's really exciting. It's been a dream since I was young. I can't wait to play tonight and hopefully I have a good game.
