Both Kleven and Sanderson will gather for a training camp in Plymouth, MI., starting Dec. 12 where they will hope to be part of the final 25-man roster.
Kleven and Sanderson won gold last year and are two of six returnees from that team.
"We're excited about the group we've named to the preliminary roster," said John Vanbiesbrouck, general manager of the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team and also the assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. "Thanks to the efforts of so many coaches and volunteers across the country, our talent pool is deep, and we'll have some very difficult decisions to make to get to our final roster."
In 15 games with North Dakota this year, Kleven has three goals and five points alongside 50 penalty minutes.
Sanderson has been phenomenal for the Fighting Hawks where he has six goals and 10 assists in just 13 games. His six goals are the second most by a defenceman in the NCAA, as are his 16 points.
The 2022 World Juniors take place in Edmonton and Red Deer from Dec. 26 - Jan. 5.
