The Senators and Canadian Tire Jumpstart, in partnership with the Sens Foundation and the City of Ottawa, held its the end-of-year wrapup skating party for the Canadian Tire Jumpstart presents I Love To Skate program on Sunday at Scotiabank Place.
Sunday's part marked the conclusion of the second year of the I Love To Skate program partnership. It provides financially disadvantaged children in neighbourhoods across Ottawa with the opportunity to receive a pair of skates and helmet, in addition to skating lessons from qualified instructors at the city’s outdoor rinks.
Each of the 400 participants and members of their immediate families took in the opportunity to skate on the same ice surface as the Senators. Communities involved in the program were identified by the City of Ottawa through an application process, which later saw children obtain a voucher redeemable at a local Canadian Tire retailer to purchase the helmet and skates required to participate in the program.
