Gameday Journal presented by Monarch Homes: Game 26 — Canucks vs. Senators

by Chris Lund / Ottawa Senators

5:30 PM: Get set for puck drop with Gord Wilson and Sens TV...

3:45 PM: Today's Gameday Goodie catches up with Bobby Ryan to see how he's adjusting to weather in Ottawa after life on the west coast.

3:00 PM: Zack Smith potted the game winner for the Sens last night against the Capitals and he weighed in on last night's win and tonight's game earlier today...

2:00 PM: Here's what Paul MacLean had to say about tonight's game...

On tonight's lineup:

Borowiecki and Gryba will go in and Cowen and Wiercioch will come out…Craig Anderson (is the goaltender).

On Jared Cowen:

I think Jared has struggled at times this year and I think that it's time for him to watch a game and see if he can settle himself down and get himself back playing the way we need him to play.

On his game:

I think he's — he's coming back from the injury, he missed the whole year, we've been, I think, working with him and being patient with him and continuing to put him on the ice, but his play has been inconsistent. We, frankly, we need him to be a better player.

On the Canucks:

Skill, the Sedins are very skilled, they're very good on the power play obviously so not taking penalties and being good on the penalty kill will be important for us tonight. The goaltender, I think, is very good. The defence corps. can get the puck moving and they can be very tenacious as well. We know they're going to block lots of shots apparently, that's John Tortorella's system that they use and we expect it's going to be a very difficult game.

On carrying momentum forward:

We have to start the game tonight the way we finished it last night and stay at that level. We can't come back and go down. We have to come in and be ready to play the game at the level we finished the game last night and that's up to us, the leadership group and as individuals to make sure we're ready to play at a high level and stay there.

1:30 PM: Here are tonight's projected lineups for the Sens and Canucks...

12:30 PM: We're off to a later start than usual with today's sweater unveil, but the Ottawa Senators are, in fact, looking to win the second game of a back-to-back tonight when they take on the Vancouver Canucks.

The Sens showed flashed of their #PESKYSENS moniker last night as they battled back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Washington Capitals by a 6-4 score. Bobby Ryan had a pair of goals to lead the Sens while Zack Smith potted the game winner late in the third.

The Canucks are in the thick of a very tough Pacific Division race at the moment as they have battled to a 12-9-5 record through their 26 games. They have been a strong team on the road with a 7-4-2 record.

The Sens went through a round of team meetings and prep today and I'll have plenty of updates on the way including, but not limited to, lineup changes, players' thoughts on tonight's game, Sens TV updates, Instagram goodness and more.

Stay tuned!
