Still some decisions to be made regarding the Sens line-up today against the Kings as the team deals with a rash of players heading to the IR.

Injury update

Before yesterday's practice, we received some less than ideal injury news as Cody Ceci (upper body injury), Ryan Dzingel (lower body injury) and Alex Formenton (concussion) have all been placed on the injured reserve.
"Cody Ceci is dealing with two separate issues," shared Senators GM Pierre Dorion. "We just felt that the best thing for him was to put him on the IR. With Ryan Dzingel it's a muscle issue and Alex Formenton has a concussion but is doing very well today."
As a result of the injuries, the Sens have recalled Nick Paul and Christian Jaros from Belleville.
"We're hopeful that everyone including Max McCormick will be able to return against Montreal" said Dorion.

Up Front

The injuries to Dzingel and Formenton are having a bit of a ripple effect on the forward lines but they do create some opportunities for players to step up. Notably, Colin White and Mikkel Boedker could see their names climb the depth chart as the pair were flanking Matt Duchene in a top 6 role at Friday's skate.
Meanwhile, Magnus Paajarvi found himself in Formenton's spot on a line with Chris Tierney and Bobby Ryan yesterday and could see an increased role today against the Kings.
"Everybody has to step up," said Paajarvi about the recent rash of injuries. "It's going to happen throughout the year and it's important for the young guys to learn that teams don't go through the whole season without some injuries. It's a matter of focusing on what you can control and finding ways to help this team win games."
Sens head coach Guy Boucher recently praised Paajarvi on the leadership role he's taken with the team this season. The 27-year-old Swede isn't too far removed from being a young player in the NHL but has embraced the opportunity to be a leader in Ottawa.
"I came from St. Louis where we had a lot of veterans that all had hundreds of NHL games under their belt," he said. "I learned a lot from the guys there especially Alex Steen who's a guy that I really look up to when it comes to leadership qualities."
"When I look around the room this season, there are a lot of 18, 19 and 20-year-old guys running around and I start to feel old," Paajarvi joked. "I've really tried to follow in the footsteps of the guys who helped me out when I was a young player in this league and I think it's been going well so far. We're really making an effort to grow this team and I'm happy to step up and be a part of the leadership group to help make that happen."
Here's a look at the line rushes from yesterday's practice:
Boedker - Duchene - White
Tkachuk - Smith - Stone
Paajarvi - Tierney - Ryan
Paul - Pyatt - Carey

On Defence

Ceci's injury looms large over a relatively inexperienced defence corps as he currently leads the team in shifts per game (27.3) and SH TOI per game (3:14). A possible solution to help spread Ceci's minutes around would be the return of the 11 forwards and 7 defencemen deployment that Boucher has used in the past.
One thing we know for sure is that Ben Harpur will see his first action of the season today against the Kings.
"It's not easy being out of the line-up," Harpur said following yesterday's practice. "You have to come to the rink and put your best foot forward every day. I've been doing extra conditioning skates to stay in shape and I feel like I'm ready."

Oct 12 - Ben Harpur

Still waiting on some confirmations from the coach but here's how the defence pairings looked yesterday:
Chabot - DeMelo
Borowiecki - Wideman
Lajoie - Jaros
Harpur

In Goal

Craig Anderson (1-1-1) will get his second consecutive start today and is coming off a 7-4 defeat on Wednesday against the Flyers. It's been a busy first 3 games for Anderson as the Sens currently rank last in shots against/game surrendering an average of 38.8 shots a game.
