We've put together 5 things you need to know before the puck drops for tonight's home game against the Arizona Coyotes...
1. Starting Goalies
Craig Anderson is set to make his third start of the season in goal tonight for the Sens. Anderson is currently 2-0 this year but he's had some difficulty with Arizona recently dropping his last 4 starts to the Coyotes.
At the other end of the rink, it looks like Mike Smith will get the call for the Coyotes. Smith started and won their only previous game this season 4-3 in overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers this past weekend.
2. Chabot's debut
2015 first-round pick Thomas Chabot will be making his NHL debut tonight for the Senators. Chabot's been a healthy scratch the previous 3 games as the Sens begin his regular season audition to see if he's ready to stick with the club for the duration of the year.
On what playing in his first NHL game means to him:
It's something special for me and my family. Since I was probably 5 years old I've wanted to play in the NHL one day and tonight I have the chance to actually play my first game. It's something really special for me.
Where he believes he'll fit in the line-up tonight:
I think we're going with 7 defensemen so I'll probably play with Wideman or Borowiecki like we used to do in the preseason.
On being able to play on both the left and right side:
It's a little bit easier on the left side but I'm a guy that can play both ways. In junior, I play the left side and the right side so I don't feel uncomfortable to play on the right side. I feel pretty go playing both ways.
3. Projected line-up
With Chabot set to make his debut someone needs to come out of the line-up and tonight it's going to be Matt Puempel which means the Sens will be rolling with 7 defensemen for the first time this season. They used this type of line-up at times in the pre-season as head coach Guy Boucher said he likes his defensemen to be active in the play and the extra defender allows him to play certain players in certain roles. It also has an impact on the forwards as Boucher would often roll a top 6 winger with Chris Kelly and Chris Neil to help add an off-season threat to his 4th line and create some mismatches.
4. From the coach
His thoughts on what happened mentally yesterday against Detroit:
We came out really good yesterday and we weren't giving anything to the opponent, we were in their faces and that first goal deflated us and it shouldn't have. I mean it's one goal, we came back the previous games late in the third. We talked about mental toughness and I didn't like the way we deflated after that goal. Maybe it gave them a bit of life too but the disparity between them and us, it can't be that big.
