Game Day 5: Sens vs Avalanche

by Craig Medaglia @craigmedaglia / Ottawa Senators

The Colorado Avalanche are in town for their annual visit tonight and we've got 5 things to set the table prior to puck drop.

1. Starting Goalies

Craig Anderson is back between the pipes tonight for the Senators. Anderson has been very good since returning from a personal leave this season and has gone 4-2-0 with a save percentage of .947 and a goals against average of 1.84 during that stretch.

The Avalanche didn't skate this morning so there's nothing official yet but I'd probably say that Calvin Pickard might earn the call for Colorado tonight. Jeremy Smith started in their last contest, a 4-0 loss against the Flyers on Tuesday, so Pickard could be in line for tonight's game.

2. Line-up notes

The coach confirmed this morning that a pair of the players picked up prior to the trade deadline will make their Senators debut tonight. Both Alex Burrows and Viktor Stalberg will see their first action with their new club tonight and you can see how that impacts the line-up below...

Stalberg spoke this morning about potentially being nervous to play a first game with the Senators:

Yeah, I'm sure I'll be a little bit nervous the first couple of shifts but then you start to get used to it. I think the biggest thing is getting used to the systems. I think it's a little different in ways - you may be in different spots than you normally would be and you maybe have to think a bit more. That will be a little bit of a challenge at first but I think it's going to work out.

3. Ottawa Senators Foundation Telethon

It's the Ottawa Senators Foundation Telethon tonight so be sure to tune in to TSN5 at 6:30 p.m. to see some of the stories about local kids and how the foundation is helping them overcome barriers and reach their potential. 4. Previous Meeting

It's been over a year since these teams last faced off all the way back on February 11th, 2016 at Canadian Tire Centre. An interesting aside on this game, it was Dion Phaneuf's first home game with the Senators after being acquired from the Maple Leafs two days prior. Unfortunately, his debut in front of the home crowd was dampered by a 4-3 loss to the Avalanche but he did record a point in defeat.

Check out the full highlights from that game below...

5. At the game

We've got ourselves a 7:30 p.m. start at Canadian Tire Centre tonight but it's always a good idea to get to the building a little earlier on Throwback Thursday so you can take advantage of some retro pricing. That's right, $1 hot dogs and $1 small Coca-Colas before 7 p.m. so grab some change and get here before the warm-up tonight.

Also keep your head on a swivel when you're leavng the game as well as we'll be handing out the fourth poster in a 10-set series for our 25th anniversary celebrations. Tonight's poster depicts the 2003 team mobbing Chris Phillips after his game 6 overtime goal against the New Jersey Devils.
