Game Day 5: Sens @ Hurricanes

by Craig Medaglia / Ottawa Senators

Here are 5 things you need to know before tonight's game in Raleigh against the Hurricanes.

1. Line-up

Some line-up notes for tonight...

  • Sens winger Mark Stone returns to the line-up tonight after serving his 2-game suspension.
  • The coach confirmed that Chris Wideman would also slot back in against the Hurricanes.
  • Zack Smith (healthy) and Cody Ceci (lower body) will both be out of the line-up tonight.

2. Goalies

The coach confirmed yesterday that Andrew Hammond would get the start against the Hurricanes. In two starts this year, Hammond is 1-0-1 and sports a save percentage of .919 and a goals against average of 2.40. Craig Anderson will back him up tonight.

Cam Ward is expected to start in goal for the Hurricanes tonight.

3. Last meeting

I'm going to ignore the preseason meeting in St John earlier this year because I'd way rather re-live the Sens last trip to Raleigh. In the midst of a record breaking run towards the playoffs (and in the midst of a terribly long losing streak in Carolina), the Sens snatched a 2-1 overtime win after this play from Kyle Turris and Mark Stone...

Andrew Hammond also tied Hall of Fame member Frank Brimsek as the only NHL goaltenders to start his career with 12 straight games allowing fewer than three goals. Brimsek accomplished the feat with the Boston Bruins in 1938-39.

4. Pre-Game Comments

Sens TV patrolled the locker room this morning after the skate and has put together all the choice quotes in one place...

5. Broadcast

Tonight's game will be available on Sportsnet 1 and TVA Sports 2 on the radio at TSN 1200. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
