Game Day 5: Sens @ Bruins

by Craig Medaglia / Ottawa Senators

Here are 5 things you need to know before today's game as the Sens get set to close out their season against the Bruins this afternoon.

1. Line-up

Some line-up notes for today...

  • The Sens recalled Philip Varone this morning from Binghamton. Varone was acquired at the trade deadline in a minor league deal and is set to make his Sens debut this afternoon. He'll wear #22.
  • Varone was recalled to fill Curtis Lazar's spot in the line-up. Sens head coach Dave Cameron mentioned yesterday that Lazar was "banged up" and his availability for the game was in question as a result.

Tough to say how the forward lines will shake out with no morning skate but based on the past few games it could look something like this today...

FORWARDS

Zack Smith - Jean-Gabriel Pageau - Bobby Ryan

Mike Hoffman - Mika Zibanejad - Ryan Dzingel

Matt Puempel - Nick Paul - Alex Chiasson

Buddy Robinson - Philip Varone - Chris Neil

DEFENCE

Fredrik Claesson - Erik Karlsson

Mike Kostka - Cody Ceci

Ben Harpur - Chris Wideman

2. Goalies

Andrew Hammond gets the call in today's matinee against the Bruins. Hammond comes in to the last game of the season with a 4-5-2 record and a save percentage of .918.. Craig Anderson will back him up today.

Tuukka Rask is probable to start in goal for the Bruins at the other end of the rink today. That should get confirmed closer to puck drop.

3. Last meeting

These two teams last faced off against each other back on January 9th, 2016 in Ottawa with the Sens earning a 2-1 win. Mark Stone had the game winner in overtime while Erik Karlsson had 2 of his league-leading 65 assists in the victory.
