Senators defenceman Erik Karlsson chatted with the media before getting his round started at Wednesday's Bell/Senators Charity Golf Classic. Here's what he had to say...
On the defensive emphasis this season:
I think it's obvious, that was probably our main concern last year, the thing we couldn't really figure out and something we're going to address as soon as the season starts. It begins tomorrow and I think everybody agrees with him (Paul MacLean).
On what it affects in his game:
Nothing, I think we all know, we're all professionals, we've all been around and that's one of the things we need to improve to be successful and one of the things we've been good at in the past. Our defensive game has been good and we've been successful. Last year we couldn't meet those standards and we're just going to have to try and figure it out. We have a fresh start right now.
On his health:
I feel great, I feel a lot better than I did at the end of last year which is nice. I feel confident out there. I'm looking forward to the camp and playing exhibition games and getting to it. I'm all for getting going here.
On how much different he feels from a year ago:
I feel a lot better I would say. Unfortunately we had a long summer but I think personally for me it was good, I probably needed it. I could get back to my normal routine and get back to my normal workouts and I think it really paid off. Hopefully right from the season's start I'll make a lot of progress. As I said, I already feel a lot better now but hopefully after getting a couple of games in I would say the same thing.
