Erik Karlsson will suit up in tonight's split squad game against the New York Islanders which is set to take place at 7:30 p.m. NST. Here's what he had to say on getting things going again...
On the enthusiasm being there as a veteran:
This is what's fun, playing games and even though it's the first game and you feel a bit rusty, you're wondering how it's going to go. It's so exciting, you look forward to it. It's nice to finally be back in action and slap some pucks around out there.
On lining up with Freddy Claesson:
I think it's fun, I remember my first couple of years and it's exciting to play with veteran guys, being paired with some of the older guys, it's fun to see the younger guys and the enthusiasm they have and how hard they work. All we can do is try to help them out as much as possible and give them a few tips here and there.
On his assessment of the camp and team:
It's been great, we've only had one practice and one scrimmage but I think everybody looks good out there and we feel fresh. The communication level in all the meetings has been good, everybody knows what's expected of them so far. We need to do it moving forward.
On how he feels:
It feels good, feels really good. I've still got to get a bit more friendly with the puck but that's hopefully going to come later in the camp.
