Chabot: "You have to be ready to work really hard."

by Craig Medaglia @craigmedaglia / Ottawa Senators

After receiving management's message loud and clear earlier this summer, Thomas Chabot is looking to build off of a strong showing at the Rookie Tournament last weekend as he auditions for a spot on the Sens' NHL roster during training camp.

On the team getting better as the Rookie Tournament went on:

The first game we started a little bit slow in the first period. I think we tried a little too hard to play fast and quick like the coaches were asking so after the first one the coaches came in and said to just manage the puck a little bit more. We still had to play fast but not too fast that we make turnovers for no reason. After that we started to manage the puck more and as the games went on we got better and better.

On being able to showcase his offensive game at the tournament:

In the first two games, I think we only allowed two goals but in the last game I think we were a little bit more offensive and guys were shooting the puck more. I had a good game and I was pretty happy with the way we played but I think all the guys in front played really well and that's why we were able to score a lot of goals.

On seeing his off-season training paying dividends already:

After the Development Camp this summer I wanted to get back to work and work even harder to get ready so to start that way at the Rookie Tournament, I'm pretty happy. Hopefully it keeps going.

On the pace of the first on-ice session of training camp:

I was really surprised. It was pretty much the first game for all the pro guys in a long time so I didn't expect the game to be that fast but the guys were really good and making great plays. The pace was really good and I didn't expect that for the first practice.

On coming to training camp prepared:

You work a lot on getting into good shape during the summer and for me I had the chance to get in even better shape during the Rookie Camp. Obviously you have to come here in really good shape and be ready to work really hard.
