Since we missed him at the NHL Draft last weekend, we caught up with #Sens 2016 fifth-round pick Maxime Lajoie after today's on-ice session at Development Camp at Bell Sensplex...
On hearing that he had been drafted by the Ottawa Senators:
A bunch of different feelings. I didn't know what to think but I was so happy though. It was a long, stressful day but I was really happy that they picked me.
Where he was when he heard the news:
I was with friends and family. My billet from Swift Current came down too which was nice so we just had a little party at my house. It was really fun.
His thoughts on Ottawa and the Senators organization so far:
I have lived in Toronto but had never been to Ottawa before. The organization is unbelievable and they take really good care of us. They're a great organization and I'm happy to be here.
On taking on more of a leadership role in Swift Current last season:
I think defensively it helped me grow a lot having more responsibilities on the penalty kill and playing more 5-on-5 minutes. It was a huge jump for me but I thought I did a pretty good job in the second half. It was an important year for me.
On wanting to leave an impression during Development Camp:
I want to show them my skating, my vision and just the good things about me. I also want to be able to work on the things that I need to work on. The guys that are here are helping us a lot with skills and skating so it's all good.
On the variety of drills during the on-ice sessions so far:
It's a lot of different stuff that I've never done before but it's all good stuff. These guys are great and it's hard but if it wasn't hard everyone would do it, right?
His thoughts on going zip-lining this afternoon:
I have been zip-lining before. It's really fun and I'm excited to see where it is and how big and long the line is.
