We caught up with Sens forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau during his visit to the Ottawa Senators Hockey Camps at the Richcraft Sensplex to talk about his off-season training, gearing up for training camp and more...
On his off-season training so far:
It's been really good. I've been working out all summer with Chris Schwarz. We're about 10 guys there every morning so it's been fun to work out together and push each other. We're all good friends so it's fun to see each other too.
Hitting pads as part of his training this summer:
Yeah, I try to change things up a little bit. Every Wednesday I go to the gym and hit some pads. It's always good to learn different sports and I like it.
On translating those skills to the ice:
(laughs) I don't think I'm a fighter but it's always good to know the basics and you never know what can happen on the ice. You've got to be well prepared.
On skating this summer:
I skated in the summer league over in Gatineau once or twice a week and now I've started skating with the guys and some guys from other organizations. It's a good skate. We're skating hard to be ready for training camp.
On the number of Sens that stayed in Ottawa to train this summer:
It's my third or fourth summer here and I think this has been the summer that I've seen the most guys working out. I think it's fun and it shows how dedicated we are to the game and how we want to be ready for next season.
His thoughts on training camp this year:
I've always been a player who wants to prove that I deserve my spot so I'll go to the camp and try to prove that I can play there and that I deserve my contract. That has been my motivation all summer. Just to work hard and prove that they made a good decision to sign me on a one-way contract and I'm pretty excited for training camp.
On the important of visiting the Ottawa Senators Hockey Camps:
It's always fun. I do a lot of golf tournaments and charity stuff but I think when I come here to the rink and see the kids with smiles on their faces when they're playing hockey and that they're enjoying playing...it's all of their passion. Just to see them look at me like I'm living their dream...it's just fun.
