The Ottawa Senators’ year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues. The following is a look at the club’s community schedule from Friday, Oct. 29, to Thursday, Nov. 4.
Russell Public School Character Always! Day
On Friday, Oct. 29, the children from Russell Public School (14 Mill St., Russell, Ont.) will participate in Jump Rope for Heart, which involves 10 different outdoor jumping activities. The participants will learn the benefits of physical activity, healthy eating and how they can help by giving to others. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Beginning at 2 p.m. Senators forward Nick Foligno
will join Spartacat, the Senators’ ambassador of fun, in addition to Max Keeping of CTV and Tina Rudkoski of the Ottawa Valley Aid for Chernobyl Children (OVACC) as Lucas Watters, a Russell Public School student, cuts his hair for two great causes. Lucas will donate his hair, which he has been growing for more than two years, to Locks of Love. He has also been fundraising for OVACC.
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. OVACC provides summer visits to Canada with host families for children who live in areas contaminated by radiation from the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.
