The Ottawa Senators’ year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues. The following is a look at the club’s community schedule from Friday, Jan. 22, to Thursday, Jan. 28.
Scotiabank Girls Hockeyfest
The Ottawa Senators and Scotiabank will host more than 400 female minor hockey players at Scotiabank Place this Friday, Jan. 22 (5 p.m.–8:30 p.m.) and Saturday, Jan. 23 (9 a.m.–4 p.m.) for Scotiabank Girls Hockeyfest, which will feature on-ice and off-ice skill development sessions along with a tour of Scotiabank Place. The clinic will be conducted by the Carleton Ravens women’s hockey team and the Ottawa Senators midget, intermediate and senior women’s hockey teams. Joining them will be Tammy Lee Shewchuk, who was a member of Canada’s 2002 Olympic gold medal hockey team. Shewchuk will assist with the on-ice skill development sessions and address the participants on Friday at 8 p.m. and again on Saturday at noon. Registration for the Scotiabank Girls Hockeyfest is full.
Following the on-ice and off-ice skill segments on Saturday, the Ottawa Senators women’s hockey teams will play a doubleheader against the Burlington Barracudas at Scotiabank Place. The Senators intermediate women’s hockey team hits the ice at 5 p.m., followed by the Senators senior women’s team at 7 p.m. Admission to both games is free. Spartacat appearances
Spartacat, the Senators’ ambassador of fun, will visit the Metro location at 4048 Carling Ave. in Kanata from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22. Spartacat will also visit Brown’s Your Independent Grocer (1251 Main St., Stittsville, Ont.) for Sens Cake Class taking place in the Community Room from 11:30 a.m. to noon and 3:30 p. m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23. Also on Saturday, Spartacat will appear at Canadian Tire (1660 Carling Ave.) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and will conclude the weekend by visiting the Real Canadian Superstore (190 Richmond Rd.) on Jan. 24, from noon to 1 p.m.
