The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has signed defenceman Chris Wideman
to a two-year entry-level contract.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Wideman recently completed his fourth and final season of college eligibility with the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s Miami (Ohio) Redhawks. Wideman helped the Redhawks reach the National Collegiate Athletic Association East Regional Semifinals, where they were defeated by the University of Massachusetts-Lowell on March 23.
Wideman played in 41 games this season, scoring four times and adding 20 assists, while recording 40 penalty minutes. In four years with the Redhawks, he recorded 95 points (12 goals, 83 assists), while registering 191 penalty minutes in 163 games.
Wideman helped Miami earn its first two trips to the Frozen Four, a national championship game appearance and its first Mason Cup (CCHA tournament title) during his four year college career. His 163 games played ranks third in school history.
Originally drafted by the Senators in the fourth round (100th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Wideman has participated in the team’s annual development camp in each of the last three summers.
