OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators signed left-winger Brian Maloney to a one-year agreement.

Maloney, 27, comes to the Senators after three full seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. He set career highs with 16 goals, 18 assists and 34 points in 68 games with Chicago last season.

The native of Bassano, Alta., has earned 72 points (32 goals, 40 assists) and 374 penalty minutes in 218 career games with the Wolves over three-plus seasons from 2003-05.

Maloney, who originally signed with Atlanta as a free agent on March 28, 2003, tallied 136 points (63 goals, 74 assists) and 292 penalty minutes in 159 career games with Michigan State University (CCHA) from 1999-2003. The six-foot-one, 205-pound forward led MSU in penalty minutes during three of his four years and served as team captain for his senior season.

Prior to attending MSU, Maloney spent two seasons with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the B.C. Hockey League (BCHL) from 1997-99. He posted 40 goals, 75 assists and 115 points in 60 games in 1998-99 to lead the team in scoring and finish second in the BCHL. He was named to the BCHL all-star team both seasons and was voted most valuable player in 1998-99.
