OTTAWA - In preparation for three pre-season games this weekend, the Ottawa Senators made their first training camp moves today, reducing their roster to 27 players. The Senators roster stands at three goaltenders, eight defencemen and 16 forwards (roster is attached).
Dave Cameron, head coach of Ottawa's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, will welcome to his training camp 15 players: two goaltenders, four defencemen and nine forwards. Binghamton's camp opens Friday, Sept. 23.
Joining the B-Sens are goaltenders Jeff Glass and Kelly Guard; defencemen Brennan Evans, Neil Komadoski, Neil Petruic and Jan Platil; and forwards Danny Bois, Brett Clouthier, Joe Cullen, Jeff Heerema, Gregg Johnson, Grant Potulny, Charlie Stephens, Greg Watson and Roman Wick.
Cameron will have seven players return from last year's line-up and another four players with 2004-05 AHL experience.
Returning to their Canadian Hockey League junior clubs are centre Cody Bass, right-winger Chris Greene, defenceman Tomas Kudelka and left-winger Matt Marquardt. Bass rejoins the Mississauga Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League, Greene returns to the OHL's Erie Otters and Kudelka joins the Lethbridge Hurricanes for his first Western Hockey League season. Marquardt is off to Moncton, N.B., to line up for his rookie year with the Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Goaltender Mike Mole, one of six winners from CBC's Making The Cut television program, was also released today.
The Senators travel to Binghamton, N.Y., for their first of two neutral-site games Friday, Sept. 23. In their second game of the pre-season calendar, having defeated the Maple Leafs in Toronto 5-2 on Sunday, Sept. 18, the Senators will face the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday. The two teams will meet again in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., home of the Penguins' AHL affiliate, on Saturday. The Senators weekend wraps up with their first pre-season game at the Corel Centre, where the Toronto Maple Leafs will visit Sunday for a 7:30 p.m. start.- 30 -
