- The Ottawa Senators today re-assigned forward Zack Smith
to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
Smith, 21, was recalled for the second time this season on Saturday, March 6, and played six minutes in Ottawa’s 2-1 shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In nine games with the Senators this season, Smith has recorded two points (two goals) and nine penalty minutes while averaging 9:13 time-on-ice per game.
The native of Maple Creek, Sask., has recorded 13 goals, 18 assists and 92 penalty minutes in 56 games with Binghamton this season. A co-winner of the B-Sens’ 2008-09 rookie-of-the-year award, Smith was Ottawa’s third-round selection (79th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
The B-Sens (seventh East Division, 25-30-4-3, 57 points) next see action tonight when they host the Syracuse Crunch at 5:05 p.m.
