OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today re-assigned forward Jonathan Cheechoo to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

In 61 National Hockey League games with the Senators this season, Cheechoo has scored five goals and added nine assists for 14 points, while recording 20 penalty minutes.

The 29-year-old was San Jose’s second-round pick (29th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. In 501 career NHL games, he has scored 170 goals, added 135 assists and 324 penalty minutes. He has also recorded 35 points (16 goals and 19 assists) and 32 penalty minutes in 58 career playoff games.

Cheechoo was acquired by Ottawa along with Milan Michalek and a second-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for forward Dany Heatley and Ottawa’s fifth-round draft choice in 2010 on Sept. 12, 2009.

The B-Sens (seventh East Division, 21-23-3-2, 47 points) next see action this evening when they visit Albany at 7 p.m.
