Bulletin: Senators host Minor Hockey Week

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators announced today their plans to pay tribute to minor hockey players, coaches, officials and volunteers. From Jan. 10 to Jan. 18, the Senators will host a wide range of minor hockey initiatives at Scotiabank Place as part of their weeklong salute to minor hockey.


Sens Gameday Experience presented by Esso

Saturday, Jan 10, from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Minor hockey teams from across the Ottawa-Gatineau area will visit Scotiabank Place and watch the Ottawa Senators pre-game skate. Twenty-six minor hockey teams, including more than 1,000 players, friends, and family members, will be in attendance to watch as the Senators coaching staff puts the players through their paces in an assortment of high-energy drills, while providing them the chance to work on their own individual skills. Minor hockey teams have registered in advance through T.E.A.M. Hockey Country.

Bell Capital Cup Volunteer of the Year

Saturday, Jan. 10, Ottawa Senators vs. New York Rangers, 7 p.m.

The Ottawa Senators and the Bell Capital Cup will recognize the efforts of Janet McFall when the Senators host the New York Rangers on Saturday, Jan. 10. McFall has participated in the Bell Capital Cup over the past four years and has hosted minor atom A teams at the Goulbourn Rec Complex. McFall will be recognized during the second period of the Senators game.

ODMHA and Hockey Outaouais Volunteer of the Year

Tuesday, Jan 13, Ottawa Senators vs. Carolina Hurricanes, 7:30 p.m.

In conjunction with the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association and Hockey Outaouais, the Ottawa Senators will recognize the volunteer of the year from each association for their work in minor hockey. The recipients will receive personalized awards, tickets to the Senators game for that evening and in-game recognition on the videoboard.

ODHA Coaches Clinics

Wednesday, Jan 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

With the support of the Ottawa Senators, the Ottawa District Hockey Association will be hosting two coaches clinics at Scotiabank Place offered through the ODHA Mentorship Program. More than 100 coaches will take to the ice at Scotiabank Place for the two separate sessions.

6 p.m. to 6:50 p.m. - Small area games for coaches to use in practice

7 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. - Goaltending fundamentals for coaches

Interested coaches need to register by visiting www.odha.com in order to be eligible to attend.

Saturday, Jan 10, Ottawa Senators vs. New York Rangers, 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 13, Ottawa Senators vs. Carolina Hurricanes, 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, Jan 17, Ottawa Senators vs. Montreal Canadiens, 7 p.m.

Minor hockey players from the ODMHA, Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) and Hockey Outaouais will take to the ice along with the Ottawa Senators as they lineup on the blue line for the national anthems as part of the pre-game ceremony.

Skills First Challenge Finals presented by Bell

Sunday, Jan 18, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Ottawa Senators and Bell will be hosting the finals for the Skills First Challenge presented by Bell. Throughout the season, minor hockey teams have hosted sessions for the Skills First Challenge presented by Bell and submitted their scores to the Ottawa Senators. Top performers have been invited to participate in the finals at Scotiabank Place; novice players will compete at 8 a.m., atom players will compete at 9 a.m. and peewee players will compete at 10 a.m. The winners from the atom and peewee sessions will be able to skate alongside the Ottawa Senators during the Sens Skills presented by Bell, taking place later that afternoon. The winners from the novice sessions will be able to participate in an Ottawa Senators intermission activity during the January 27 home game versus the New Jersey Devils.

Sens Skills presented by Bell

Sunday, Jan 18, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Sens Skills is a fun-filled, family-oriented, charitable event that features the Senators players split into two teams and competing against each other in six skills events. Fourteen minor hockey players will take to the ice alongside the Ottawa Senators. The minor hockey players will be selected from the Skills First Challenge Finals presented by Bell taking place earlier in the day.
