Bulletin: Senators hold annual development from June 30 to July 6

by Staff Writer / Ottawa Senators
OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators today released the schedule and list of 32 players attending the annual development camp from June 30 to July 6 at Scotiabank Place and the Bell Sensplex. The club invited three goaltenders, 11 defencemen and 18 forwards.

Eight of the club’s nine selections from the 2009 NHL Entry Draft held Friday and Saturday in Montreal will attend, including Ottawa’s first-round pick, Jared Cowen. Also attending the camp will be 2007 first-round draft choice Jim O’Brien and the Senators’ first rounder in 2008, Erik Karlsson.

The development camp, which focuses on off-ice and on-ice training, is led by the Senators’ director of player development Randy Lee, Senators’ head coach Cory Clouston, goaltending coach Eli Wilson, video coach Tim Pattyson, strength and conditioning coach Chris Schwarz, University of Guelph Gryphons’ head coach Shawn Camp, and powerskating specialist Marc Power.

“The camp will put the players through the team’s training program, while allowing staff to assess the players and formalize a variety of specific off-season training programs,” Lee said. “To complement their physical training, the group will also work on sport psychology and mental skills, as well as team-building activities, sport nutrition and healthy eating sessions.”

Highlights of the Senators development camp schedule:
- On-ice training every day at the Bell Sensplex, starting Tuesday, June 30, at 1:30 p.m., with the exception of the two days with 3-on-3 tournaments.

- Off-ice workouts at Scotiabank Place the mornings of July 2 and July 5.
- A vision training session for goaltenders at Dynamic Edge Sports Vision Training Centre – Bell Sensplex
- A wilderness adventure outing with Ottawa’s Wildnerness Tours in the afternoon of July 1.
- A specialized healthy eating/cooking seminar held by Creative Nutrition specialist Molly Morgan.
- All on-ice workouts, including the two 3-on-3 tournaments, are open to the public.
