- The Ottawa Senators assigned centre Zack Smith
to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
The 21-year-old native of Maple Creek, Sask., played in four pre-season games, recording an assist and four penalty minutes.
Smith, Ottawa’s third-round pick (79th overall) in the 2008 draft, played his first full professional season in 2008-09. In 79 games with Binghamton, he was second on the team in goals with 24 and fifth in points (48). He played in his NHL game debut on Nov. 28 in the Senators’ 4-2 loss to the New York Islanders.
The Senators camp roster is now comprised of 25 players: two goaltenders, eight defencemen and 15 forwards.
