TEAM Hockey Country gets bigger and better

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators Hockey Club announced today a series of minor hockey initiatives that will provide minor hockey associations across the National Capital Region with fundraising opportunities, fundamental skill development assistance and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

Introduced last season, the TEAM Hockey Country program returns with enhanced benefits for registered teams. T.E.A.M., an acronym for Together-Educate-Appreciate-Motivate, promotes the fundamental core values and ethics associated with the game of hockey through a variety of Senators minor hockey programs that promote skill and coaching development; fair play and fun.

Teams throughout the National Capital Region can register again this year for their free membership package, which includes:

  • 40 TEAM Hockey Country jersey patches to identify the team.
  • 20 TEAM Hockey Country contracts for each of their players and coaches signed by Senators general manager, John Muckler. Registered TEAM Hockey Country teams, players and coaches agree to abide by the values set forth in the contract.
  • A TEAM Player Award consisting of a Senators Hard Hat, which can be awarded to team members by the coaching staff.
  • Exclusive opportunities to participate in TEAM Hockey Country initiatives and events.

Teams are eligible to qualify for and participate in a number of Senators minor hockey initiatives, including: Canadian Tire Suit Up With the Sens, the Esso Minor Hockey Festival, Hockey Day in the Capital, the TEAM Hockey Country Gala and on-ice intermission activities throughout the season.

The 3rd Annual Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic will kick off this year's T.E.A.M. Hockey Country initiatives on Saturday, October 1, at 8:30 a.m. Each year, the Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic brings together the largest gathering of coaches throughout eastern Ontario and western Quebec. This year, more than 750 minor hockey coaches will watch, learn and listen from some of the best hockey minds from across Ontario on a variety of current coaching topics. Interested minor hockey coaches may still register for the annual clinic by visiting

The Canadian Tire Suit Up With the Sens program offers TEAM Hockey Country participants, who have registered by October 31, the chance to win one of 10 opportunities to practise at the Corel Centre, with a member of the Senators' organization joining them for their practice.

At the end of the season, TEAM Hockey Country registrants can nominate their team for one of three awards: TEAM of the year, most improved TEAM and most sportsmanlike TEAM. The three winning teams will attend the TEAM Hockey Country Gala to be held in conjunction with the Senators game against the Buffalo Sabres Saturday, April 8.

All TEAM Hockey Country clubs will be provided with nomination forms. A panel of judges formed with the help of the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association, Ottawa and District Women's Hockey Association and Hockey Outaouais will then choose the three winning teams from the nomination forms received.

Throughout the season, the Senators will provide minor hockey teams with the opportunity to purchase discounted Senators tickets for fundraising purposes, or to attend a Senators game with their team at a terrific price.

Through these initiatives, more than $1 million will be raised or be saved by minor hockey teams over the course of the season.

The Ottawa Senators Hockey Club, the Ottawa District Hockey Association, the Ottawa and District Women's Hockey Association, Hockey Outaouais, along with founding TEAM Hockey Country sponsors Chevrolet, Bell Canada, Tim Hortons, Esso, Canadian Tire, the Ottawa Citizen and CCM are committed to the growth and development of hockey throughout eastern Ontario and western Quebec.
