1,000 books to be donated to children on Sept. 28
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators and Ottawa Citizen will team up this Thursday, Sept. 28, for Raise a Reader Day. The Senators will donate 1,000 books to the first 1,000 children aged 10 and under attending their final pre-season game when they play host to the Montreal Canadiens.
Raise a Reader is a national initiative of the Ottawa Citizen's parent company, CanWest Global Foundation. The program's goal is to increase awareness and raise funds for children and family literacy programs.
In addition to the book donation at the Senators home game, Raise a Reader Day will see the Ottawa Citizen publish a special edition with a four-page wrap dedicated to literacy. Volunteers and celebrities will be soliciting donations on designated street corners in exchange for newspapers.
There are currently fewer than 3,000 tickets available for the club's final pre-season home game with tickets 40 per cent off regular single-game ticket prices. Tickets can be purchased on-line at www.CapitalTickets.ca, by phone at 613-599-FANS (3267) or 1-877-788-FANS (3267); in person at any Sport Experts location in the Ottawa-Gatineau area and at Scotiabank Place's box office.
