OTTAWA - In conjunction with the Bell Sensplex, the Ottawa Senators Alumni are preparing to host their sixth annual Ottawa Hockey Classic on Thursday, Nov. 17, in support of the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. The event has two components:
- A tournament open to adult recreational players with as many as 28 teams. The team fee is $1,500. Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of two games, plus half the teams will play an additional championship game. Registration is being accepted in five different divisions based on player age (30-plus, 35-plus, 40-plus, 50-plus and 60-plus) via the event’s website, located at http://www.bellsensplex.ca/tournament-adult-details.php?tID=432. All tournament games will be officiated by certified CARHA (Canadian Adult Recreational Hockey Association) referees.
- Corporate tables (seating for eight) are also available at a cost of $1,500, which includes a catered roast beef dinner and wine.
The tournament has raised close to $300,000 in support of the refurbishment of facilities at Camp Smitty, which is used by the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. It will be followed by a reception featuring members of the Senators Alumni group along with Bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent, Bob Kelly, and Dave Schultz, all former members of the Philadelphia Flyers’ renowned ‘Broad Street Bullies’ teams of the 1970s. The reception, which will be held at the Bell Sensplex, will also include a Hot Stove session hosted by Liam Maguire and live and silent auctions.
