by Staff Writer / Ottawa Senators
OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the club has acquired a fifth-round draft pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for forward Brian McGrattan. The draft pick is the Boston Bruins’ 2009 fifth-round selection that was traded to the Coyotes with Nate DiCasmirro on Dec. 6, 2007, for Alex Auld.

McGrattan, 26, was signed as a free agent on June 2, 2002, and made his NHL debut on Oct. 5, 2005, at Toronto. In 38 games in 2007-08, the native of Hamilton, Ont., recorded three assists, 46 penalty minutes and registered an even plus-minus rating.

Originally a fourth-round selection of the Los Angeles Kings in 1999, McGrattan has skated in 143 NHL games, all with the Senators, recording 10 points (two goals, eight assists) and 287 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 196 games for Ottawa’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
