The pre-season contest will mark the Senators’ first in Saskatchewan’s capital city. The last NHL game played in Regina was on Sept. 28, 1990, when the Winnipeg Jets defeated the St. Louis Blues 7-6 at the Brandt Centre (then Agridome). The facility regularly hosted NHL exhibition match-ups when the Blues held their training camp in Regina from 1981 through 1983.
The Senators last opposed the Lightning in pre-season play on Oct. 2, 2003, and earned a 4-3 victory at Scotiabank Place (then Corel Centre). The Lightning hold a 4-2-1 advantage over Ottawa in seven pre-season meetings.
The Senators open their 2009-10 training camp on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Scotiabank Place with medicals and fitness testing. The complete training camp and pre-season schedule will be announced at a later date.
