The children were welcomed by Melnyk, then the whole group took to the ice for a holiday skate. Afterward, the children were treated to a luncheon in the Hockey Country Lodge.
Melnyk, along with Max Keeping, Spartacat, and members of the Ottawa Senators alumni, presented each participant with early Christmas presents, including a Senators jersey, a helmet, and a brand new pair of skates all donated by Melnyk.
“The Melnyk Skate for Kids is small gesture on my part to help bring some excitement and happiness to deserving children in our community,” said Senators owner Eugene Melnyk. “When you share the joy of skating, you are creating some lasting childhood memories and perhaps fulfilling a few dreams along the way. There simply isn’t a better way to kick off Christmas and the holiday season for me and my family.”
“Each winter, Mr. Melnyk strives to make 100 kids feel very special,” said Max Keeping, honorary chair of the Sens Foundation. “The gifts that Mr. Melnyk has for each child is a gift that represents his desire for all youth here today to have the best Christmas holiday season in 2010 and a memory that will last a lifetime.”
