After the Sens wrapped practice on Thanksgiving Monday, Derick Brassard spoke about being able to spend the holiday with his family this year, looking forward to his regular season Sens debut this week and more...

On being able to spend Thansgiving with his family this year:

It's nice. I had dinner with my family yesterday. It's also the first time I'm going to be able to attend Christmas and Thanksgiving and birthdays and stuff like that so it's nice to be around for those.

Looking forward to the Home Opener on Wednesday:

I've been thinking about it for a couple of months now since I got traded. I've been waiting for that day for a long time and at the end of the day it's going to be a fun hockey game, fun atmosphere. I'm just going to try to enjoy it and play my game and not put too much pressure on myself.

On looking after tickets for family and friends for the Home Opener:

I'm sure there are going to be a lot of people but I'm only (looking after) my parents and my sister.

On his pairing with Bobby Ryan through training camp:

We've been playing really good. We've had a different left winger pretty much every game with Clarke going down. I think we're trying to figure it out and who's going to be there but at the end of the day if we start the game Wednesday with Smith we're just going to try and make it work. I feel like our chemistry is there, we had some good games and the real test starts on Wednesday.

On continuing to develop the new look power play system:

In the pre-season games, we faced some penalty killers who maybe aren't even going to play with those teams. The pre-season games are there for those things, practicing the penalty kill, practicing the power play and executing new systems. I feel like with the power play we had some good games but at the same time in the last game we gave up a goal on the power play. That's always something that we can't do and at the same time maybe it's a good learning experience for us. We need to make sure that if we use a forward on the back-end when the penalty expires we need a quick change and we need to make sure those two defensemen are on the ice. I feel like the two units can make plays and can make a difference. If this team wants to have a lot of success this year our special teams need to be really good.
