OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators Foundation (@sensfoundation) is pleased to announce that $156,160 was raised at the Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic held Monday at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club. More than 100 golfers, along with members of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club (@Senators), attended this year's sold-out event, the hockey club's first official public function of the 2017-18 season.
"We are very grateful for the support we received from the hockey club, its players, sponsors and the participants that made today such a success," said Danielle Robinson, president and CEO, Ottawa Senators Foundation. "Our guests come here to meet and play golf with the players and coaches, but most importantly, they leave with a clear understanding of what their support means and how it benefits hundreds of children and youth in our community."
The proceeds from Monday's event will support the work of the Ottawa Senators Foundation and will be invested into social recreation and education programs that promote both physical and mental wellness. Programs such as the Sens Sports and Leadership at the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, where each year, more than 1,000 children and youth enjoy ball hockey, soccer, basketball, volleyball and a walking program called Walk This Way, free of charge. Annually, programs like this and others, impact thousands of children and families across eastern Ontario and western Quebec.
"Bell is very pleased to continue supporting the Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic to raise funds for mental health programs that help children and youth in our community," said Mirko Bibic, Bell's chief legal & regulatory officer and executive vice-president, corporate development. "Each year, we look forward to participating in this event that plays such an important role in helping to improve the lives of so many young people."
The Ottawa Senators Foundation wishes to thank event sponsors Bell, Ferguslea Properties Limited, Molson, MBNA, Canadian Tire, Scotiabank, Corbeil Appliances, Canadian Bank Note Limited, Capital Taxi/Coventry Connections, MSI Corp, Konica Minolta, Mark Motors Group of Companies, Beam Suntory, Faces Magazine, Bell Media Ottawa, E&J Gallo, Ottawa Business Journal and Casino Lac-Leamy for their generous support. In addition, the Foundation is appreciative of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, its board of directors and staff for donating the tournament's green fees.
The Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic is the only event in the region where participants are paired with members of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club. This highly anticipated, exclusive experience is limited to only 108 players, and while the number of participants is small, the historical results have been significant. Thanks to the support of the hockey club's players, coaches and alumni, sponsors and participants, the event has raised more than $2.3 million over its 23-year history of changing the game for thousands of children and youth in our community.
