With the release of the AHL schedule today came the revelation that the Binghamton Senators will be playing a game on February 8, 2014 at Canadian Tire Centre when they take on the Hamilton Bulldogs.
The game gives local Sens fans a great opportunity to see the team’s future stars in action on the NHL team’s ice. The B-Sens have played a handful of games in Ottawa before with the most recent instance coming on November 13, 2011 — they dropped a 5-2 decision to the Bulldogs.
Last year’s B-Sens put together a 96 point regular season under first year head coach Luke Richardson, amassing a 44-24-8 record in 76 games after boasting the best record in the Eastern Conference at the all-star break. They bowed out of the playoffs after falling in three one-goal games to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
With a more experienced squad poised to suit up in 2013-14, the Baby Sens are in a good position to build upon their fourth place conference finish in 2012-13 and will look to be one of the top teams in the AHL this season.
Current Senators who have suited up in past editions of the game for Binghamton include Jason Spezza, Erik Karlsson, Erik Condra, Zack Smith, Colin Greening, Patrick Wiercioch, Jim O’Brien, Mark Borowiecki and Robin Lehner. Essentially, those of you who want to figure out which players coming up the pipeline will be joining the big club sooner rather than later will have an excellent opportunity to put your scouting ability to the test.
