Anderson speaks: An update on his status

by Chris Lund / Ottawa Senators

Craig Anderson
spoke to the media today after practice where he participated again today. It sounds as though there's reason to be encouraged as everything seems to be coming along nicely.

Here's what Andy had to say...

On how he feels:

Everyday seems to be getting a lot better. Just trying to do everything I can to get back soon.

His timetable:

Nothing has been set in stone yet, we just kind of take it day by day and right now the progress outstanding everyday. Every day I can do more and more out there. That's kind of where we're at right now.

On his progress:

I can skate, I can stop, I can push, I can do a lot of things that a forward can do. I haven't taken the step yet to see what a goalie can do. I think that's going to be the next step is see how it is tomorrow and see if I can get into the butterfly at all.

On if he actually wants to play forward:

Yeah but I don't think you want me out there. I'm pretty good for a beer leaguer and that's about it.

On how he will be trying to progress this weekend:

We've got some ice in the morning, it'll be early but they said it's just a matter of trying to stay in shape and making sure that when my ankle does feel 100 per cent I'm ready to play.

Considering how bad the injury looked when it happened, it's hard not to be encouraged by Anderson's update. The play of Ben Bishop and Robin Lehner has been reassuring in Anderson's absence, but it's always good to get the man who was the best goalie in the league at the time of his injury back between the pipes. Obviously the Sens are in no rush right now, but it sounds as though he'll be in the mix sooner rather than later.

Bishop will start tomorrow vs. Philadelphia.
