And what a night it was.
The team added Tim Stützle, Jake Sanderson and Ridly Greig to its prospect core after making selections with the third, fifth and 28th overall picks.
In Stützle, the Sens selected the top-ranked European skater. Currently playing professionally in the German DEL league, Stützle tallied 34 points (seven goals) in 41 games last season en route to being named the league's Rookie of the Year. His scouting report highlights include his playmaking ability, speed, hands, shot and his hockey IQ as he looks to make the immediate jump to the NHL as an 18-year-old.
And he made a bold statement in his first media availability.
"My goal is to wins cup with Ottawa."
With Sanderson, Ottawa nabbed the top-rated defenceman in the draft. He captained the USNTDP U18 squad last year where he had 29 points in 41 contests and the year prior, also captained the U17 team. His defensive game is raved about but at the same time, he possesses a keen playmaking eye and will contribute on offence too with his elite hockey sense.
The Whitefish, MT., native is committed to North Dakota for the 2020-21 season where he will play alongside fellow Senator prospects Jacob Bernard-Docker and Shane Pinto.
With its final pick of the evening, the Sens took Greig, who was the 14th ranked skater available with the 28th overall pick.
Greig had 60 points (26 goals) in 54 games last season with the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings and his 1.07 points-per-game led his team. His scouting report highlights his skill-set and vision as well as his on-ice intelligence. He also possesses a feisty side to him as he gets under the skin of his opponents. His 83 penalty minutes last season were the second most on the team.
The second round resumes Wednesday at 11:30am. The Senators currently have nine selections to make on Day Two.
