Four Buffalo Sabres prospects are representing their countries in this year’s IIHF World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia: Mikhail Grigorenko and Andrey Makarov (Russia); Joel Armia (Finland) and Jake McCabe (United States). Check back to each day during the tournament (December 26, 2012 to January 5, 2013) as we track their progress.

Thurs., December 27
McCabe: The United States opened preliminary round action with an 8-0 pasting of Germany. Jake McCabe was held off the scoresheet, but his five shots on goal were second only to the six taken by Seth Jones and Riley Barber. McCabe finished plus-one on the day, and also took a pair of minor penalties.

Armia: Finland (1-0) faces the Czech Republic (0-1) at the Sports Palace on Friday. (2:30 a.m. ET) The Finns received some bad news yesterday when it was learned that leading scorer Miro Aaltonen would be lost for the tournament with an ankle injury suffered in their opening day win over Latvia.
