The Mite Minor AAA team won the WNYAHL Mite A Championship on Sunday, March 8 with an exciting 4-2 win over the Webster Cyclones.

Last week the Knights beat the Wheatfield Blades 3-2 in the Semi Final game to reach the Championship game. The Knights had finished league play 10-3-1 while Wheatfield and Webster had lost only once.

In the Wheatfield game the Blades scored the first two goals of the game but Dante Santora, Trevor Kuntar and Paul Cartone scored the next three goals to take the lead with eight minutes to play in the third. Knights goalie Nicholas Haas then made some spectacular saves to secure the win in regulation.

In the Championship game vs Webster the knights took the lead and never relinquished it. Paul Cartone scored the first goal then Trevor Kuntar scored on a penalty shot to take a 2-0 first period lead.

Webster scored early in the second but Alec Cicero gave the Knights a two-goal lead again with a beautiful wrist shot off the crossbar. The Cyclones scored to end the second period to close the gap to 3-2. In the third period Jeffrey Cummins scored the Knights fourth goal and goalie Nicholas Haas shut down Webster the rest of the game for the Championship.

The entire team played great as the team's defense crew of Jack Gilbert, Elisabeth Sidorski, Gunar Weppner, Daniel Berke, Tommy Peers and Michael Bunce played outstanding defense. The Knights forwards out skated and out hustled both teams, a long with the goal scorers, the teams forwards are made up of William Redding, Ryan Mitchell, Brent Casillo and AJ Ferenczy. Goalie Gregory Stamm played a important role in the teams regular season wins and was ready, if called upon, during the playoffs.
