Matthew Coller and I opened the show talking about the hiring of Randy Cunneyworth as the new Rochester Americans head coach.
Cunneyworth called in and expressed his happiness about being back behind the bench, a spot where he belongs.
He talked about some of the prospects he'll be coaching in Rochester including the possibility of Sam Reinhart spending a little time in the "A."
Randy also talked about the importance of having success in the minors with young players. He touched on some of veteran leadership including the presence of Matt Ellis, who is in most people's view a sure lock for captaincy.

Former Sabres captain Steve Ott then picked up the phone on the seventh ring only to deliver what we in the biz call “Radio Gold.” He still follows the Sabres too, so you should listen to that.
Interview with Steve Ott
During the interview, Ott offered to throw longtime friend and Sabres defenseman Mike Weber on the phone, so we decided to call him instead.
Weber expressed his and the whole team’s excitement rolling into training camp. Mike also talked about what expectations the players in the locker room have for young gun Jack Eichel.
Interview with Mike Weber
We heard from another longtime Sabre and former captain Jason Pominville towards the end of the show. He talked about what's going on in Minnesota with the Wild. Pominville played for Cunneyworth in Rochester so he added some insight as to why Cunney is a great fit for the Amerks.
Matt asked Jason to share some insight on the "Scaarrry Good" goal called by the legendary RJ. Matt and I also went over Pominville's analytic numbers. They’re not too shabby...

Tune in Friday as we will have Marty Biron on at 10:30. Marty played with and for Cunney and knows him personally, so tune into that.
At 11 a.m., Stanley Cup champion Todd Marchant, a Western New York native, will be on the phone. His camp is going on now and he works for Anaheim so we’ll have to ask about the Ducks.
And Clarke MacArthur will join us. He played with Lehner, the Sabres and he also played for Randy Cunneyworth.
The show starts at 10 a.m. on WGR 550.
