Approximately 3,000 people traveled to HSBC Arena for the 22nd annual Super Sunday. One of the premier high school championship showcase’s in Western New York, Super Sunday was established in March of 1985.

Hutch Tech 2, McKinley 1

Explorer Club Hockey League

The Hutch Tech Engineers took their third consecutive Super Sunday title with a narrow 2-1 victory over McKinley. Senior John Ennis and Patrick Garry scored for Hutch Tech, who won the Peter Hurly Trophy as the Explorer League regular season champions with a record of 16-6-2.

Orchard Park 3, West Seneca East 2 (OT)
Southtowns Club League

Orchard Park avenged its only regular season loss in the overtime thriller to clinch their eighth consecutive championship. Defenseman Dan Andol scored minutes into the extra period to lift OP to the 3-2 victory. During the regular season, the two teams split their previous two meetings. OP won the first game 4-2, while West Seneca East snapped the Quakers 74-game unbeaten streak with a 2-0 victory in the second.

Cheektowaga 5, Depew 1
Western New York Club League (Small School)

The Cheektowaga Warriors dominated the Depew Wildcats 5-1 en route to their third consecutive Super Sunday title. The Warriors were led by goals from Matt Bessing, Jared Fischer, Chris Wesolowski and Rob Szymkowiak.

Niagara-Wheatfield 4, Jamestown 1
Western New York Club League (Large School)

Kevin Ogiba scored a pair of goals while Matt Beamish, Nick Melligan added individual markers as Niagara-Wheatfield clinched the team’s second consecutive Western New York High School League large school championship. The Super Sunday appearance was the first ever for Jamestown, while the game marked Niagara-Wheatfield’s second victory at the event in 28 years.
