Let's get right to it. Ryan O'Reilly left last night's 3-2 shootout loss to Carolina after the first period with a lower-body injury, but based on coach Dan Bylsma's comments after the game, the injury doesn't appear to be too serious.

"He tweaked something in a muscle and we decided we weren't going to go any further with it," Bylsma said. "He came back out and gave it a try. We just said we didn't want to take any chances."

We'll know for sure later today when the Sabres take the ice for practice at KeyBank Center.

Here's what else you need to know.

Evander Kane and Justin Bailey were the goal scorers in the game, which was played in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Brian Duff has your video recap with some highlights in there for you.

Daniel Catenacci also did not finish the game, and was also held out for precautionary reasons.

For the full written recap, Jourdon LaBarber has your back.

Bylsma said he didn't like the way Buffalo played in the first period, but things got better as the game wore on. Here are his full comments:

Position Battles

Derek Grant continues to make a name for himself this preseason. He played in his fifth-straight game last night and recorded an assist on Kane's goal.

With two goals and three assists this preseason, he's doing everything he can to make the roster, so we'll see what path the front office decides to take when it comes to that 13th forward spot. Opening night rosters are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Amerks at HarborCenter

Tonight, the Rochester Americans will play a preseason game against the Bignhamton Senators at HarborCenter at 7:05 p.m. Hall of Fame broadcaster Don Stevens will call the action with analysis from Ric Seiling. Tickets are $10, but if you can't make it to the game, we'll be live streaming it here.

On Tap Today

We'll try to get you some injury updates during and after today's practice. Jourdon will have a written report and Duffer will provide you with a video breakdown of something or other. Whatever it is, it'll be good. Just trust me.

And we'll also get you set for tomorrow night's contest in Ottawa. The final preseason game will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and can be heard on WGR 550. It'll be Dan Dunleavy and Rob Ray on the call once again.

We're one week away from the home opener. Who's already ready?
