It's finally here: The season opener. Montreal is in town for the 7 p.m. faceoff. Our pregame coverage kicks off at 6:30 with the Tops Gamenight pregame show on MSG. Here we go now.

The Sabres take the ice at 10:30 a.m. for their first morning skate of the regular season.

Medical report

There was a scary incident at practice yesterday when Jack Eichel went down with a high-ankle sprain. There's no timetable on his return and we might get a more detailed update later from coach Dan Bylsma.

Ryan O'Reilly practiced with the team yesterday, but his status is still up in the air for tonight. He's been dealing with muscle spasms since returning from the World Cup of Hockey.

Kyle Okposo will skate with the team this morning, but will not play.

With the status of those players up in the air, other players will have to step up. Yesterday, we took a deeper look at what Sam Reinhart did in the offseason to become a better skater

After Eichel left practice, here's what the line combinations looked like:

52 Hudson Fasching - 90 Ryan O'Reilly - 23 Sam Reinhart
63 Tyler Ennis - 22 Johan Larsson - 82 Marcus Foligno
9 Evander Kane - 27 Derek Grant - 12 Brian Gionta
44 Nicolas Deslauriers - 28 Zemgus Girgensons - 26 Matt Moulson

Carey Price will not play tonight. He didn't travel with the Habs due to the flu.

Video Bonus

We mic'd up Dan Bylsma during training camp. Here are the sights and sounds from practice.

Then after the game, we'll have full postgame coverage and interviews from the locker room.

Also, we'll hear from starting goaltender Robin Lehner in a first-person piece about the work he put in this summer. We'll also debut another mic'd up feature starring him and goalie coach Andrew Allen. If you liked the Bylsma video above, I think you'll like this one even more.
